Thermodynamic control of hurricane intensity
Article Abstract:
It is possible to use a very basic coupled ocean-atmosphere model to obtain an accurate account of the evolution of storm intensity. The atmospheric element in this model is cast in a transformed radial coordinate that significantly boosts horizontal resolution in the critical region surrounding the eyewall. The model assumes that the storm is axisymmetric. It seems that, once tropical cyclones achieve tropical-storm strength, their intensity evolution is determined mainly by their initial intensity and the thermodynamic profile of the atmosphere and upper ocean through which they pass.

Fossil evidence for the origin of the marsupial pattern of tooth replacement
Article Abstract:
Ultra-high resolution X-ray computed tomographic analysis of a tiny fossil, Alphadon, indicates that the marsupial pattern of tooth replacement originated during the Mesozoic era. The pattern of tooth eruption and root formation of the canine, the stage of P3 replacement and the development of the last molar of Alphadon is identical to living marsupials. These developmental processes in Alphadon indicate that some reproductive specializations including nipple fixation occurred during Mesozoic.
