Time lag between deforestation and bird extinction in tropical forest fragments
Article Abstract:
Research presented concerns the impact of deforestation and forest fragmentation on bird extinction and the time it will take to see these losses. The author calculates eventual species losses from current data, finding an exponential relationship between years of fragment isolation and fauna extinction.

One Hundred Fifty Years of Change in Forest Bird Breeding Habitat: Estimates of Species Distributions
Article Abstract:
Data on habitat for three warbler species drawn from the mid-1800s are used to assess bird population changes and the impact of habitat losses on distributions. The decline of large trees and conifers due to settlement has contributed to warbler habitat loss; implications are discussed.

Beetle Responses to Habitat Fragmentation Depend on Ecological Traits, Habitat Condition, and Remnant Size
Article Abstract:
Position and flying ability were found to explain most of the differences in beetle species responses to habitat fragmentation in a woodland-to-agriculture setting in New South Wales, Australia. Species that are flightless or live underground were the most vulnerable populations.
