Timing of nest searches for upland nesting waterfowl
Article Abstract:
A study of 44 mallard (Anas platyrhynchos), 8 northern shoveler (Anas clypeata), 12 lesser scaup (Aythya affinis), 13 blue-winged teal (A. discors), 4 green winged teal (A. crecca) and 6 gadwall (A. strepera) females determined that the appropriate time to search for active nests is 0800 to 1400 hours Central Standard Time (CST). The search for nests before 0800 CST increases the possibility of finding the birds in the early stages of egg laying, and the nests are mostly deserted. The search should begin 3 hours after sunrise.

Research is presented concerning the vulnerability of the Lesser Snow Goose to hunting with traditional calling methods and with electronic calling devices. The population reduction of Lesser Snow Geese is discussed.

Condition bias of hunter-shot ring-necked ducks exposed to lead
Article Abstract:
Ring-necked ducks shot by hunters over decoys are usually in poorer physical condition than those collected randomly. This research confirms that condition bias is a common feature among ducks.
