The buyer next door
Article Abstract:
Slovnaft (Bratislava, Slovakia), refinery company, will commission EFPA technology in 1999. The technology will raise Slovnaft's light-products yield from the current 67% to 85%, increasing the production of petrols, gases, diesel oil and kerosene to the detriment of heavy fuel oil. Slovnaft's petrol production will rise by 60%. In 1999 Slovnaft plans to sell 110 mil lt of fuels through its service stations in the Czech Republic, which are operated by Slovnaft CS (Czech Republic), joint venture between Slovnaft Benzinol (Bratislava, Slovakia) and Slovnaft Moravia (SM) (Brno, Czech Republic). In 1998 the company sold 79 mil lt of fuels within the network. During 1999, the number of the service stations should increase from the current 37 to 50. SM, which also sells Slovnaft's products in the Czech Republic via other dealers, plans to sell 380,000 t of products worth 5.8 bil Kc in 1999 compared to 284,000 t worth 4 bil Kc in 1998. Slovnaft has about a 20% share on the Czech fuel market, controlling 25% of the local diesel-oil market and 10% of the petrol market. Exports to the Czech Republic represented about 38% of Slovnaft's total exports in 1998.

Polyurethanes
Article Abstract:
Elastomers are the most significant type of engineering polyurethanes (PUs), because they are highly elastic and extensible and can be cross linked. Thermoplastic elastomers are part of a group of thermoplastic rubbers (TPRs) and have a high degree of hardness. PU elastomers are useful in engineering applications because of their toughness and high abrasion resistance. Other grades of PU elastomers are suitable for use in contact with foods .

Tons of fun
Article Abstract:
The hippopotamus exhibit called the hippoquarium has been a focal point at the Toledo Zoo. Visitors to this exhibit have recently seen a live hippopotamus birth. This exhibit has provided researchers with a means to study hippopotamus mating, birthing, communication, and behavior patterns. Caretakers have been successful in training the resident hippopotamuses to routinely undergo examinations and wear investigative video camera equipment.
