Trans-species transplant raise virus fears
Article Abstract:
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) will examine a proposal from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) to infuse baboon bone marrow into an HIV patient as it may improve the weakened immune system because the baboon bone marrow is not affected by the HIV virus. However, the officials are concerned about the possible side effects of xenotransplantation as it carries the risk of creating dangerous new viruses. The authorities will also draw safety guidelines.

Make marijuana research easier, panel urges NIH
Article Abstract:
A group of scientific advisers has given the NIH a report exhorting it to create a centralized, administrative means to speed up the design and conduct of studies involving the potentially therapeutic effects of marijuana. Such mechanisms would promote grant applications for research into the use of marijuana for glaucoma, analgesia, appetite stimulation, neurological disorders, nausea following following anti-cancer treatments and movement disorders.
