US backs revamp of nuclear warheads
Article Abstract:
The National Nuclear Security Administration, the agency that supervises the US nuclear stockpile has announced on December 1, 2006 its plans to pursue development of a new Reliable Replacement Warhead (RRW), which is claimed to be safer and robust than the current designs. The proposed designs have mainly focused on making changes to the plutonium triggers or pits of the current warheads due to the discovery about the constant stream of radiation that comes from the plutonium itself could create cavities in its crystalline structure, causing the weapon to fail.

Enough warheads, already
Article Abstract:
The UK Prime Minister Tony Blair's declaration to replace the Trident submarine fleet that carries Britain's nuclear weapons has sparked a round of debate in Britain and United States about the role of nuclear weapons in the modern world. The Congress liberals and Conservatives have defied the proposed project to build a Reliable Replacement Warhead (RRW) as overly expensive and against the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and forwarded suggestions to opt for a cheaper version.
