United through repulsion
Article Abstract:
The theoretical prediction that mutually repulsive atoms placed at periodic intervals in a 'crystal of light' can, counter intuitively, be forced into stable couplings, was confirmed by experiments. The bond formed is stable because the large repulsive interaction between the atoms cannot be converted into kinetic energy.
