Unrealistic desiccation of marine stratocumulus clouds by enhanced solar absorption
Article Abstract:
The radiatively driven cloud models are unrealistic and overestimate the increase in cloud solar absorption. Model simulations of stratocumulus cloud-topped marine boundary layer with different solar radiation absorption levels are analyzed. The simulations reproduce observed cloud behavior under conventional absorption, whereas unrealistic daytime decrease of cloud water is seen during artificially enhanced absorption. The dissolved absorber molar concentration of 5 x 10 to the minus fourth power is necessary to generate the required cloud forcing ratio.

Harnessing nature in Africa
Article Abstract:
A new biopesticide based on fungal spores, Green Muscle is licensed for use against grasshoppers and locusts in many African countries after 15 years of work by an international collaboration. The new biological pesticides when integrated into a sound integrated pest management system are less harmful than other products in Africa.

African dust in Florida clouds
Article Abstract:
The impact of the dust from the Sahara Desert in Africa on clouds over Florida is discussed. Advances in satellite remote sensing and in numerical modellings of aerosol behaviour make possible the production of images and forecasts for the locations of dense dust plumes as well as of clouds of smoke and sulphates.
