Visible flicker from invisible patterns
Article Abstract:
Contrast-modulation flicker, or the perception of alternating light and dark bars in a coarse fringe pattern even though some of the bars were too fine to be seen subjectively, was observed among participants in experiments. A nonlinear relationship between each cone photoreceptor's reaction to a visual stimulus and the intensity of the incoming light is the best way of accounting for perception of contrast-modulation flicker. This form of vision is a property of the cone system but not of the rod system.

Orientation-selective adaptation and tilt after-effect from invisible patterns
Article Abstract:
Research is presented describing how extremely fine details of a visual stimulation, even details that are too fine to be seen, are observed by the visual system as far as the cortex. This indicates that our visual system can be neurally aware without being consciously aware.

Realignment of cones after cataract treatment
Article Abstract:
Research on cone realignment following surgery to remove cataracts is examined in detail. The research indicates that cones are phototropic.
