Representations of odours and odour mixtures visualized in the honeybee brain
Article Abstract:
The neuronal responses of honeybees to odors and odor mixtures and the corresponding representation of chemoreceptor activation patterns are examined through optical recordings in the brain of the said animals. Results show that the odors created specific spatio-temporal excitation patterns in the antennal lobe. However, reactions to general flower odors were different compared to pheromones.

Learning from a fly's memory
Article Abstract:
Until recently, research on memory and learning has been hampered by the inability to distinguish between the formation of memories, and their retrieval. Genetic manipulation of the brains of Drosophila melanogaster, or fruitflies, has enabled these two facets to be dissociated and studied separately.

Disruption of neurotransmission in Drosophila mushroom body blocks retrieval but not acquisition of memory
Article Abstract:
Research is presented describing the study of memory acquisition and retrieval in the mushroom body of a Drosophila melanogaster, or fruitfly's, brain. If neurotransmission is disrupted, memory retrieval is blocked, but acquisition is still possible.
