Wartime tactic doubles power of scarce bird-flu drug
Article Abstract:
The supply of Tamiflu, the main antiflu medicine recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO), is believed to cover just 2% of the world population and as such WHO suggests that countries should stockpile enough for at least a quarter of their population. The technique to extend precious penicillin supplies is invented during the Second World War as scientists found that a simple benzoic acid derivative called probenecid stops\ many drugs from being removed from the blood.

The fertility riddle
Article Abstract:
Japan, along with a number of other countries is suffering from rapidly decreasing birth rates and various reasons for the causes of infertility are examined. The demographic change is mostly a result of a social climate in which couples are choosing to have a few children, or none at all and the cause can also be environmental pollution or sexually transmitted diseases causing a decline in male or female fertility.
