Western Section ASAS 1992 Distinguished Teacher Award
Article Abstract:
Doctor Melvin L. Riley has been awarded the 1992 Western Section American Society of Animal Sciences (ASAS) Distinguished Teacher Award for his teaching eminence. Doctor Riley is a professor at the University of Wyoming and teaches a number of courses in the Animal Science Department including Comparative Anatomy and Physiology, Advanced Sheep Production and Swine Production and Management. He has played an important role in development of student recruitment system and in curriculum planning. His ability to impart facts and ideas in an interesting and stimulating manners has made him extremely popular amongst students.

Western section ASAS 1992 Distinguished Service Award
Article Abstract:
Professor Joe D. Wallace has been awarded the 1992 western section America Society of Animal Science (ASAS) Distinguished Service Award. An authority in the field of range livestock nutrition, Wallace, has published several technical papers. He has helped develop a Ph.D. program, at the New Mexico State University (NMSU), that encourages students to conduct research in collaboration with ARS/USDA stations. He has also been actively involved in the Western Regional Research Project on range nutrition. Wallace has been awarded several awards including the Distinguished Teaching Award for the College of Agriculture.

Western section ASAS 1992 Young Scientist Award
Article Abstract:
Doctor Mark Petersen has been awarded the 1992 Western Section American Society of Animal Science (ASAS) Young Scientist Award. Doctor Petersen is a leading authority on cattle nutrition. He is currently working at the New Mexico State University and is involved in both research and teaching activities. He has acted as faculty advisor for several student organizations and enjoys excellent rapport with his students. Doctor Petersen has been actively involved in the the ASAS at regional and national level. He has served on various committees and helped organize conferences and seminars on livestock nutrition.
