Probing met repressor-operator recognition in solution
Article Abstract:
MetJ is an Escherichia coli methionine repressor with a three-dimensional crystal structure that forms a complex with a DNA operator fragment. This complex has two hydrogen-bond contacts that bind to the MetJ repressor dimers. These contacts assist in the recognition of operator sequences, a process that takes place through side chains in the beta-strand motif. These structures produce dimer-dimer interactions that are necessary for repress methionine.

Insect pheromone in elephants
Article Abstract:
The urine of female Asian elephants contains (Z)-7-dodecen-1-yl acetate, a pheromone also found in insects such as cabbage looper, dingy cutworm, and silver Y. The pheromone is isolated from a multiple bioassay of nine mature female Asian elephants during pre-ovulatory days. The final product is obtained after a series of fractionating procedures, such as gas chromatography, mass spectrometry, and magnetic resonance.

Pheromone binding to two rodent urinary proteins revealed by X-ray crystallography
Article Abstract:
Rat urinary alpha-2-globulin and mouse major urinary protein play an important role in pheromone transport. The structure of these proteins is investigated using X-ray crystallography, giving a three-dimensional image that sheds light on the structural basis of ligand binding. These structures also provide a molecular basis for understanding rodent behavior modification.
