Where are endangered species found in the United States?
Article Abstract:
There is a division of opinion over the Endangered Species Act (ESA). Developers and landowners may see the ESA as an obstacle to economic progress, while conservationists see it as only partly effective in protecting wildlife. More knowledge of the location of endangered species could reduce opposition to the ESA. Over four fifths of the habitat or more listed by the government is on non-federal land. Some well-known northern species, like the grizzly bear, are affected by government-subsidized recreational and agricultural activities. Southern species are often affected when land is sold and logged to pay estate taxes, so tax relief could help protect endangered species.

Seas of trouble
Article Abstract:
The growing degradation of the world's oceans has raised concerns among conservationists. Aside from the overharvest of genetically unique marine populations that consequently damages genetic diversity, improper fishing methods also contribute significantly to the crisis. Marine ecosystems are also destroyed when coastal habitats are converted. Meanwhile, indirect forms of wreaking damage on the marine ecosystems also exist, such as the introduction of land-based pollution and alien species into coastal waters, and global climate change.
