How selfish is a cowbird nestling?
Article Abstract:
Comparative analysis of data is used to investigate whether brown-headed cowbird nestlings gains direct benefits by allowing host young to live. The results suggests that cowbirds and other host-tolerant brood parasites, benefit from the presence of host nestlings through the assistance that host chicks offer in soliciting a higher provisioning rate.

Winter dialects in the bronzed cowbird and their relationship to breeding-season dialects
Article Abstract:
The quantitative analysis of acoustic similarity indicates discrete differences between the songs of bronzed cowbirds in four winter flocks. Winter dialects may limit the range of signals available for individuals to learn to produce because the nonbreeding season is an important period of vocal learning in some bird species.
