The role of olfactory cues in the discrimination of agemates by lambs
Article Abstract:
An attempt is made to assess the effect of olfactory cues on agemate discrimination between lambs, Ovis Aries. The findings indicate that discrimination of a twin but failure to discriminate between familiar and unfamiliar unrelated lambs probably reflect differential familiarity between tens and unrelated penmates, but perceptible similarities between the odour phenotypes of twins may also facilitate the discrimination.

Social discrimination in lambs: the role of indirect familiarization and methods of assessment
Article Abstract:
The existence of discernible phenotypic similarity among artificially reared twin lambs was investigated. The existence of indirect familiarization was clearly implicated in the discrimination of twins of penmates in terms that the lambs learned the characteristic phenotypic traits of penmates and detected a resemblance between those familiar individuals and their twins.
