Exposure to volatile d-pulegone alters feeding behavior in European starlings
Article Abstract:
It is already known that d-pulegone, a monoterpene present in pennyroyal can reduce the incidence of attacks on fruit crops by European starlings. Recent research has used these birds to consider the role of volatile cues in the repellency of d-pulegone. It was found that direct contact with d-pulegone has the strongest deterrent effect, but that volatiles also lead to avoidance behaviour and therefore reduce attacks on fruit crops.

Effects of spring feeding on body condition of captive-reared ring-necked pheasants in Great Britain
Article Abstract:
The captive breeding and release of ring-necked pheasants to boost wild stocks for shooting is reasonably successful in the UK but the females that survive into the following spring have poor breeding success. The theory that the low availability of high energy foods may affect subsequent productivity is investigated. It is shown that poor spring diet because of modern farming practices may harm the breeding success of pheasants.
