Middle-aged mothers live longer
Article Abstract:
Research suggests that women who have children in middle-age live to an older age than those who have children when young. Historical records have been used to show that a significant number of women who were older mothers live longer than those who were younger mothers. Evidence suggests that the human lifespan is extending through natural selection. Further research is required to establish genetic variations in relation to reproduction and age-related disease.

Highly fecund mothers sacrifice offspring survival to maximize fitness
Article Abstract:
The causal consequences of offspring size in a wild population of Atlantic salmon are considered. It is suggested that maximization of maternal fitness by sacrificing offspring survival could be a general phenomenon among extremely fecund organisms.
