Volkswagen GTI: great during the Reagan era is just okay today

The $16,435 Volkswagen GTI, 3-door, front-drive hatchback, handles with stability at its top speed of 133 mph, but the original GTI, introduced in 1982, was quicker and handled corners better. The new GTI is heavier, bigger and quieter than the original version.

Long-term Passat GL

The Passat GL showed some problems over an 11-month evaluation, such as inadequate engine power at low speeds and engine failure. The Passat GL performs better at freeway speeds, and it has a roomy interior. It sells for about $19,047.
