A direct link between sister chromatid cohesion and chromosome condensation revealed through the analysis of MCD1 in S. cerevisiae
Article Abstract:
A chromosomal protein named mitotic chromosome determinant (Mcd1) was studied to identify its effects on chromosomal activities. Results show that Mcd1 caused wild type cells to complete DNA replication and chromosome segregation. Mcd1 is also needed in sister chromatid cohesion where fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) signals have a part in maintaining cohesion. However, probe mixtures of chromosome VIII, chromosome XVI and rDNA detected with FISH signals, hybridized with mcd1 cells which demonstrated chromosome condensation.

Molecular analysis of kinetochore-microtubule attachment in budding yeast
Article Abstract:
Research demonstrates that kinetochores comprising of molecular motors and microtubule associated proteins collectively mediate binding of chromosomes to spindle microtubules, imposition of tension to the paired sister kinetochores, and correct chromosome movement during mitosis.
