Polycomb and trithorax group proteins mediate the function of a chromatin insulator
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to test whether mod(mdg4) proteins display the properties of a trithorax gene. The Mod(mdg4) protein was prepared in Escherichia coli as a fusion protein while Western analysis was carried out by standard procedures. Results indicated a link between the mechanisms of insulator function and the molecular bases by which polycomb and trxG proteins influence gene expression. They also showed that boundary elements interfered with the normal communication between enhancers and promoters.

TRF2 protects human telomeres from end-to-end fusions
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to test whether the human telomeric protein TRF2 plays an important role in the protective activity of telomerases. the cDNA encoding full-length TRF2 was prepared under tetracyclin-controlled promoter while the cells were washed with cold phosphate-buffered saline. Results indicated the involvement of TRF2 in the main functions associated with telomerases in somatic human cells. They also showed that TRF2 helps maintain the correct structure at telomere termini.
