A method for DNA extraction from the desert cyanobacterium Chroococcidiopsis and its application to identification of ftsZ
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze a technique for extracting DNA from Chroococcidiopsis that overcomes challenges related to bacterial contamination and the presence of a thick envelope surrounding the cyanobacterial cells. The method supports a lysozyme treatment followed by osmotic shock. Results indicated the effectiveness of the method in supporting a molecular approach to examining Chroococcidiopsis.

Ti[O.sub.2] photocatalysis causes DNA damage via Fenton reaction-generated hydroxyl radicals during the recovery period
Article Abstract:
A study is conducted to show that the resistance of Escherichia coli to Ti[O.sub.2] photocatalysis involves defenses against reactive oxygen species. The damages generated by Ti[O.sub.2] photocatalysis are due to DNA attack via hydroxyl radicals generated by the Fenton reaction during recovery.

Ionizing-radiation resistance in the desiccation-tolerant cyanobacterium Chroococcidiopsis
Article Abstract:
The cyanobacterium Chroococcidiopsis appears to be capable of repairing DNA damage caused by X-ray irradiation. DNA damage caused by 2.5 kGy was repaired within three hours and damage caused by 5 kGy was repaired within 24 hours.
