A novel mechanism for regulating activity of a transcription factor that controls the unfolded protein response
Article Abstract:
The unfolded protein response (UPR) activates the transcription of target genes thru a signal generated by the accumulation of unfolded proteins in the endoplasmic reticulum. The cellular signaling pathway is mediated by transcription factor Hac1p which binds to the UPR element present in the promoters of genes that are activated by UPR. Studies on yeast mRNA splicing suggest that splicing of HAC1 mRNA is correlated with the activation of UPR and is required in the signaling pathway.

An unfolded putative transmembrane polypeptide, which can lead to endoplasmic reticulum stress, is a substrate of Parkin
Article Abstract:
Research shows that the unfolded putative G protein-coupled transmembrane polypeptide, Pael receptor, serves as a substrate of Parkin involved in the autosomal recessive juvenile Parkinsonism (AR-JP). Results demonstrate that accumulation of the insoluble form of Pael receptor and/or Parkin leads to neuronal death in AR-JP.

The ER translocon and retrotranslocation: Is the shift into reverse manual or automatic?
Article Abstract:
The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) translocon is discussed in this review article, with consideration as to whether or not retrotranslocation of polypeptides from the ER lumen to the cytoplasm takes place through the translocum pore.
