A real-time PCR method for quantifying viable Ascaris eggs using the first internally transcribed spacer region of ribosomal DNA
Article Abstract:
Real-time quantitative PCR method was used to show that the internally transcribed spacer (ITS-1) region of ribosomal DNA (rDNA) levels are proportional to Ascaris egg cell numbers, increasing as eggs developed from single cells to mature larvae and ultimately reaching a constant level per egg. The difference in ITS-1 rDNA level between viable, larvated eggs an inactivated, single-celled eggs, are considered to develop inactivation profiles for the different treatments using quantitative (qPCR) results.

Inactivation of single-celled Ascaris suum eggs by low-pressure UV radiation
Article Abstract:
A research work related with determining the inactivation of Asacaris suum eggs exposed to various fluences of UV light in a bench-scale experiment and contribution of the outer layers of eggshell to the resistance of the eggs to UV exposure is presented. The contribution of UV to the overall removal and inactivation of Ascaris eggs in a treatment process might or might not be significant, depending on the influent concentrations and the desired effluent quality.

Inactivation of viable Ascaris eggs by reagents during enumeration
Article Abstract:
The acid-alcohol solution used in the enumeration of Ascaris eggs can inactivate the eggs. This can be prevented by limiting exposure to the reagent to 30 minutes, diluting it by a factor of 100 before incubation, or replacing it with acetoacetic buffer.
