A role for the deubiquinating enzyme USP28 in control of the DNA-damage response
Article Abstract:
The analysis of 53BP1 complexes to find a new ubiquitin protease, USP28, which regulates the Chk2-p53-PUMA pathway in deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA)-damage-induced apoptosis, is presented. The findings implicate DNA-damage-induced ubiquitination and deubiquitination as a major regulator of the DNA-damage response for Chk2, 53BP1, and several other proteins in the DNA-damage checkpoint pathway, including several mediators like Mdc1, Claspin, and TopBP1.

p21CIP1 and p57KIP2 control muscle differentiation at the myogenin step
Article Abstract:
Two Cdk inhibitors, p57KIP2 and p21CIP1, redundantly control differentiation of alveoli and skeletal muscle. Expressing of myogen p21 and p57 is parallel and independent. Responding to signals for differentiation, the proteins are regulated coordinately to trigger cell-cycle termination and a dependent muscle-specific gene expression program to start muscle formation and myoblast terminal differentiation.

Regulation of the Bub2/Bfa1 GAP complex by Cdc5 and cell cycle checkpoints
Article Abstract:
Results show that the Polo-related kinase Cdc5 phosphorylates the GTPase-activating Bfa1 as well as interrupts its function to promote mitotic exit. Data further indicate that Cdc5 kinase is a component of the mitotic exit network and acts upstream of Bfa1/Bub2 GTPase-activating complex.
