Yellow tip: a cytoplasmically inherited trait in melon (Cucumis melo L.)
Article Abstract:
The mutation in a melon chlorophyll-deficient mutant is a cytoplasmically inherited trait. The mutant is named yellow-tip and is symbolized by cyt-Yt. The mutant has yellow apices and the leaves and stems turn greener with maturity. A study of the cytoplasmic inheritance for the chlorophyll-deficient phenotype reveals that the plants in the F(sub 1), F(sub 2), and BC(sub 1) generations have the mutant phenotype when the female parent carries the mutation. The plants have green tops when the female is Top Mark.
