Acf1 confers unique activities to ACF/CHRAC and promotes the formation rather than disruption of chromatin in vivo
Article Abstract:
The assembly of chromatin is a fundamental biological process that occurs in proliferating cells during DNA replication and in quiescent cells during maintenance and repair of chromosomes. The findings of an experiment performed indicate that ACF/CHRAC functions in the assembly of periodic nucleosome arrays that contribute to the repression of genetic activity in the eukaryotic nucleus.

Transcriptional activation triggers deposition and removal of the histone variant H3.3
Article Abstract:
Drosophila HSP70 genes is found to rapidly loses histone H3 and acquires variant H3.3 histones as they are induced. Observations on the HSP70 genes shows that the stability of chromatin-bound H3.3 differs between loci: H3.3 turns over at continually active rDNA genes, but becomes stable at induced HSP70 genes that have shut down.

The MTE, a new core promoter element for transcription by RNA polymerase II
Article Abstract:
The MTE (motif ten element), a new core promoter element that appears to be conserved from Drosophila to humans is described. The study indicates that the MTE is a downstream core promoter element, which is important for transcription by RNA polymerase II.
