Activation mutants in yeast RNA polymerase II subunit RPB3 provide evidence for a structurally conserved surface required for activation in eukaryotes and bacteria
Article Abstract:
Research has been conducted on the yeast RNA polymerase II mutant. The mechanisms of activation in eukaryotes and bacteria are discussed.

Response of RNA polymerase to ppGpp: Requirement for the omega subunit and relief of this requirement by DksA
Article Abstract:
The study demonstrates that purified omega RNA polymerase lacking omega does not respond in vitro the effector of the stringent response, ppGPP. The result suggests that either one or both of two short segments in the beta subunit that physically link omega to the ppGpp-binding region of the enzyme may play crucial roles in ppGpp and DksA function.

Bacterial promoter architecture: subsite structure of UP elements and interactions with the carboxy-terminal domain of the RNA polymerase alpha subunit
Article Abstract:
Bacterial promoter architecture is discussed with information about subsite structure of upstream (UP) interactions and elements with the carboxy-terminal domain of the RNA polymerase alpha subunit. The already-described bacterial promoter UP element is made up of two distinct subsites, the consensus sequences of which were identified through binding-site selection experiments. Each can bind the RNA polymerase holoenzyme alpha subunit carboxy-terminal domain by itself and set off transcription.
