Alteration of the canine small-intestinal lactic acid bacterium microbiota by feeding of potential probiotics
Article Abstract:
The survival of the potentially canine fecal lactic acid bacterium (LAB) strains fed to five permanently fistulated beagles for 7 days, were monitored for 17 days for their potential effects on the indigenous intestinal LAB microbiota. It was seen that the five fed LAB strains survived in the upper GI tract and modified the dominant preexisting indigenous jejunal LAB microbiota of the dogs and it was concluded that strains LAB8 to LAB 12 have potential as probiotic strains for dogs.

Identification of the most abundant Lactobacillus species in the crop of 1- and 5-week-old broiler chickens
Article Abstract:
The composition of the crop microbiota able to grow on Lactobacillus-selective (LBS) medium is analyzed for selecting the candidate probiotic strains. The diversity of Lactobacillus reuteri population has shown that several strains should be considered representing different clusters and nisin resistance phenotypes in candidate probiotic feed supplements for chickens.

Nisin-producing Lactococcus lactis strains isolated from human milk
Article Abstract:
The characterization by partial 16S rRNA gene sequencing, ribotyping, and green fluorescent protein-based nisin bioassay revealed that 6 of 20 human milk samples contained nisin-producing Lactococcus lactis bacteria. This indicates that the history of humans consuming nisin older than the tradition of consuming fermented milk products.
