An orphan nuclear receptor activated by pregnanes defines a novel steroid signaling pathway
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to characterize a novel orphan nuclear receptor that binds as a heterodimer with retinoic acid receptors to hormone response elements composed of two half-sites structured as a direct repeat. Called PXR, it is activated by several steroids and integrates several features of both the steroid and nonsteroid nuclear receptors. It was examined in both adult and embryonic tissues using Northern blot analysis with blots that included poly(A)+ RNA prepared from multiple adult rat tissues.

Dkk1 and noggin cooperate in mammalian head induction
Article Abstract:
Research has been conducted on growth factor antagonists which are important for mediating the inductive effects of Spemann organized in amphibian embryos. The authors have tested the hypothesis that the dual inhibition of Wnt and BMP signals could confer head organizer activity, and they report the results.
