Ascending migration of endophytic rhizobia, from roots to leaves, inside rice plants and assessment of benefits to rice growth physiology
Article Abstract:
The infection, dissemination, and colonization of healthy rice plant tissues by four species of gfp-tagged rhizobia and their influence on the growth physiology of rice is examined. The results reveal a dynamic infection process beginning with surface colonization of the rhizoplane, followed by endophytic colonization within roots, and then ascending endophytic migration into the stem base, leaf sheath, and leaves where they developed high populations.

Expression of an exogenous 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate deaminase gene in Sinorhizobium meliloti increases its ability to nodulate alfalfa
Article Abstract:
The use of the Sinorhizobium meliloti-alfalfasystem to further elaborate the effect of 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate (ACC) deaminase on nodulation is reported. The findings suggest that by genetically engineering rhizobial strains to produce ACC deaminase, there is a real possibility of obtaining better strains for use as field inocula to increase the yield of leguminous crops.
