Associations between nuclear loci and chloroplast DNA genotypes in wild barley
Article Abstract:
The polymorphisms of nine nuclear and three chloroplast DNA lociwere analyzed statistically to detect for possible associations between nuclearand chloroplast DNA. The results showed that six of the nine nuclear loci interacted significantly with the chloroplast DNA markers. Interactions detected were either pairwise, or three-way, involving an additional nuclear locus. These interactions are probably the result of local adaptation to evolutionary forces favoring particular genes in the nuclear and chloroplast genomes, although other factors such as genetic drift may have also contributedto the observed interactions.

Nonrandom distribution of chloroplast recombination events in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii: evidence for a hotspot and an adjacent cold region
Article Abstract:
Chloroplast recombination events in the chloroplast gene of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii were analyzed using biolistic transformation after sexual crosses. Results indicate that the exchange of genetic materials was not random, rather, it occurs primarily at a 700-base region in the downstream terminus of the psbA gene. Recombination in an adjacent 2 kilobase region was much less frequent. Further studies showed that the direct repeats in the 700-base region were not responsible for the increased incidence of recombination in the region.

Evolution of multilocus genetic structure in an experimental barley population
Article Abstract:
The genetic structure of 22 traits of selfed barley from four generations of 311 families was investigated to determine the expression pattern for the various traits. Results show that quantitative traits are significantly influenced by natural selection and that of the 15 discreetly inherited traits, 14 exhibit directional selection. Association of the various traits also underwent considerable reorganization over the study period indicating that heterozygozity is favored in the evolutionary process.
