Cell-associated pectinolytic and cellulolytic enzymes in Rhizobium leguminosarum biovar trifolii
Article Abstract:
Rhizobium leguminosarum biovar trifolii enzymes that degrade carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and polygalacturonate were detected using double-layer plate assays, activity gel electrophoresis-isoelectric focusing and quantitative enzyme assays. One polygalacturonase isozyme and three carboxymethyl cellulase isozymes were isolated by the electorphoretic methods. The enzyme assays showedthat the cell-wall degrading enzymes are cell-bound. Additionally, polygalacturonase activity was associated with the symbiotic plasmid, pSym of R leguminosarum bv. trifolii.

Attenuation of symbiotic effectiveness by Rhizobium meliloti SAF22 related to the presence of a cryptic plasmid
Article Abstract:
The strain Rhizobium meliloti SAF22 contains a cryptic plasmid pRmeSAF22c, which decreases its ability to fix nitrogen and nitrogen fixation zone in the root nodules has few bacterial cells while in the surrounding uninfected cells the more bacterial cells are present. However SAF22's resistance to antibiotics, action of enzymes, growth rate, utilization of carbon sources and ability to form root nodules does not differ from those strains that do not possess this cryptic plasmid.

Analysis of stable low-molecular-weight RNA profiles of members of the family Rhizobiaceae
Article Abstract:
Stable low-molecular-weight RNA profiles of 24 strains belonging to the Rhizobiaceae family were examined using staircase electrophoresis in polyacrylamide gels. Experimental data indicate relationships between species and genera which were similar to those obtained using other techniques such as 16S rRNA sequencing and NA hybridization. The novel technique allows the separation of molecules and the rapid identification of differences among different strains.
