Bacillus subtilis CodY represses early-stationary-phase genes by sensing GTP levels
Article Abstract:
Bacillus subtilis CodY, a highly conserved protein in the low G + C, gram positive bacteria, has been found to repress early-stationary-phase genes by sensing GTP levels. It is a novel GTP-binding protein and senses intracellular GTP concentration as a nutrition indicator The effect of decoyinine, a GMP synthetase inhibitor, on an early-stationary-phase gene has been shown to be mediated through CodY. The effect reflects a guanine nucleotide accumulation reduction. A codY-null mutant can sporulate under conditions of nutrient excess, so CodY seems to be normally a critical factor preventing sporulation where nutrients are in excess.

The lac operator-repressor system is functional in the mouse
Article Abstract:
The lac operator-repressor system has been found to be functional in mice by transferring an entirely functional lac system to mice. The lac system brings the time dimension of mammalian gene expression in animals under reliable, predictable experimental control. It is likely possible to put mutations, even letahl ones, into the mouse genome and to study them at the organismal level.

Core promoters: active contributors to combinatorial gene regulation
Article Abstract:
Active contributors to combinatorial gene regulation are discussed in this perspective article. The body of knowledge about core promoters structure involves great complexity and is not yet complete. It seems that core promoter diversity is an important contributor to combinatorial regulation.
