Bacterial cell division: the cycle of the ring
Article Abstract:
Bacterial cell division involves DNA replication, chromosome segregation and cell division involving cytokinesis and cell separation. The cellular division of Escherichia coli involves the formation of an annular FtsZ structure by the binding of FtsZ to a specific FtsZ receptor at the midcell region. The septation machinery is then assembled from cytoplasmic membrane and peripheral membrane proteins. Bacterial cytokinesis involves a complex process of septal invagination characterized by the ingrowth of septal murein, FtsZ ring constriction and invagination of the outer membrane.

Genome-wide prediction of mammalian enhancers based on analysis of transcription-factor binding affinity
Article Abstract:
A computational tool known as enhancer element locator is developed to identify mammalian enhancer elements regulated by Hedge-hog (Hh), Wnt and Ras/MAPK signaling pathways. Predictions validated in transgenic mouse embryos reveal the presence of multiple tissue-specific enhancers in mouse c-Myc and N-Myc genes.

Global chromosome positions are transmitted through mitosis in mammalian cells
Article Abstract:
Research findings illustrate that global chromosome positions are heritable as shown by a following single chromosome positioning during mitosis, which is reflected in similarities between the progeny and the parent mammalian cells.
