Bacterial production of trans-dihydroxycyclohexadiene carboxylates by metabolic pathway engineering
Article Abstract:
A method for generating trans-configured homochiral diols utilizing recombinant Klebsiella pneumoniae 62-1, was discovered. Transformation of this mutant with plasmids carrying genes involved in chorismic and isochorismic acid metabolism results in the generation of either (+)-trans-(2S,3S)-2,3-dihydroxycyclohexa-4,6-dienecarboxylic acid or (-1)-trans-(3R,4R)-3,4-dihydroxycyclohexa-1,5-dienecarboxylic acid. The metabolic change from one diene to the other is due to a modification in the activity of isochorismate hydroxymutase.

Reversion rates in a leuB auxotroph of Escherichia coli K-12 correlate with ppGpp levels during exponential growth
Article Abstract:
The relationship between leuB- reversion rates and steady-state ppGpp levels was analyzed during exponential growth in two Escherichia coli K-12 isogenic strains. Analysis of two isogenic multiple auxotrophs of Escherichia coli K-12 indicated the presence of two general classes of leu+ revertants that are produced by two distinct mechanisms during exponential growth. Furthermore, mutation rates correlated with ppGpp levels during the transitional period between the end of exponential growth and stationary phase.

Brucella abortus strain 2308 putative glucose and galactose transporter gene: cloning and characterization
Article Abstract:
The Brucella abortus strain 2308 glucose and galactose transporter gene was isolated in Escherichia coli strains via functional complementation involving pRE183 and pRE184 plasmids. The plasmid pRE183 and pRE184 clones restored glucose and galactose transport ability in Escherichia coli RE707 and RE777 strains. Furthermore, the two plasmids encoded a single transporter which possessed the ability to transport both glucose and galactose in Brucella abortus.
