Calcium and a calcium-dependent protein kinase regulate gamete formation and mosquito transmission in a malaria parasite
Article Abstract:
Calcium and a calcium-dependent protein kinase (CDPK4) are shown to be essential for the sexual reproduction and mosquito transmission of P.berghei. An unexpected function for a plant-like signaling pathway in cell cycle regulation and life cycle progression of a malaria parasite is revealed.

Higher-order substrate recognition of elF2alpha by the RNA-dependent protein kinase PKR
Article Abstract:
X-ray crystal structures of the catalytic domain of PKR in complex with elF2alpha are determined. The structures reveal that elF2alpha binds to the C-terminal while the N-terminal lobe mediates catalytic-domain dimerization.

The protein kinase CK2 facilitates repair of chromosomal DNA single-strand breaks
Article Abstract:
A study on CK2, the essential protein kinase is presented. The result shows that this protein maintains genetic integrity of mammalian cells by repairing breaks in chromosomal strands.
