Cdc53/cullin and the essential Hrt1 RING-H2 subunit of SCF define a ubiquitin ligase module that activates the E2 enzyme Cdc23
Article Abstract:
Cdc53/Hrt1 make up a very conserved module that acts as the functional core of a wide variety of heteromeric ubiquitin ligases. The RING-H2 finger protein Hrt 1 has been identified as a subgroup in SCF by mass spectrometric analysis of proteins that copurify with Cdc53. Cdc53/cullin and the required Hrt1 RING-H2 SCF subunit define a ubiquitin ligase module. The module activates the E2 enzyme Cdc23.

KNL-1 directs assembly of the microtubule-binding interface of the kinetochore in C. elegans
Article Abstract:
The novel kinetochore component, KNL-1 participates in kinetochore formation as shown by a kinetochore-null phenotype in its absence in C. elegans. KNL-1 is also important for kinetochore function as judged by translating kinetochore assembly initiation into the formation of a interface, which interacts with spindle microtubules.

A conserved protein network controls assembly of the outer kinetochore and its ability to sustain tension
Article Abstract:
A set of 10 copurifying kinetochore proteins from Caenorhabditis elegans, seven of which previously uncharacterized is identified. It is observed that the copurifying protein network plays a central role at the kinetochore-microtubule interface.
