Cell cycle control by oscillating regulatory proteins in Caulobacter crescentus
Article Abstract:
Significant strides were made towards understanding the molecular basis of cell cycle progression in the model bacterium Caulobacter crescentus, which is an alpha proteobacterium that dwells in all types of aqueous environments, including lakes, streams and oceans. Cell cycle regulation in Caulobacter is driven by complex genetic circuitry controlling the abundance or activity of master regulators via controlled synthesis and degradation.

Checkpoints and restriction points in bacteria and eukaryotic cells
Article Abstract:
A proposal that the concept of the eukaryotic cell-cycle checkpoint is being overused, and needs a meticulous and rigorous re-examination, is presented. It is concluded that most of the use of the term 'checkpoint' applies to eukaryotic systems that do not clearly have checkpoint properties, where processes are 'checked' before allowing subsequent processes to proceed.
