Influence of tomato genotype on growth of inoculated and indigenous bacteria in the spermosphere
Article Abstract:
The effect of the host plant on soil microbiology was determined using two tomato lines that support high or low growth of Bacillus cereus. Both inoculated and uninoculated seeds were used.

Census of the bacterial community of the gypsy moth larval midgut by using culturing and culture-independent methods
Article Abstract:
Results show a microbial diversity in the gypsy moth larval midgut and the composition of the microbial population is influenced by the plant species in the diet. DNA sequence analysis indicate mainly gamma-Proteobacteria and low G+C gram-positive divisions and less freuently alpha-Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria, and cytophaga/Flexibacter/Bacteroides divisions.

Cultivation of mesophilic soil crenarchaeotes in enrichment cultures from plant roots
Article Abstract:
One of the two dominant phylotypes of Crenarchaeota that colonizes the roots of tomato plants grown in soil from a Wisconsin field is selectively enriched in mixed cultures amended with root extract. Results indicate that the diversity of crenarchaeal soil assemblage is influenced by the rhizosphere and that mesophilic soil crenarchaeotes are associated with plant roots that show the growth of nonthermophilic crenarchaeotes in culture.
