Biogeography and degree of endemicity of fluorescent Pseudomonas strains in soil
Article Abstract:
Fluorescent strains of Pseudomonas are highly endemic and there is little global mixing, according to a study of strains isolated from 38 pristine soil samples from 10 sites on four continents. Eighty-five unique genotypes were identified, which did not overlap between sites or between continental regions.

Bacterial species determination from DNA-DNA hybridization by using genome fragments and DNA microarrays
Article Abstract:
Researchers have developed a microbiological assay based on DNA microarray technology that eliminates the disadvantages of whole genomic DNA-DNA hybridization. The array can contain thousands of DNA fragments and does not require cross-hybridizations.

Soil bacteria community shift correlated with change from forest to pasture vegetation in a tropical soil
Article Abstract:
Soil bacterial communities change dramatically when forest is converted into pasture. This was the conclusion of a study in Hawaii, where the most dominant phyla changed from Fibrobacter and Syntrophomonas in forest soil to Burkholderia and Rhizobium-Agrobacterium in pasture soil.
