Chromosomal variations in immature embryo-derived calli from six barley cultivars
Article Abstract:
The influence of genotype and culture duration as well as the incidence of chromosomal defects on the rate of plant regeneration from immature callus taken from barley embryos was investigated. Six cultivars were utilized in the investigation. The most common chromosomal aberrations are aneuploidy and tetraploidy. The rate of regeneration was reduced and the frequency of cytogenetic aberrations was increased by extended culture duration. However, cytogenetic stability does not affect regeneration.

Large differences in genetic variation of multigene families in barley
Article Abstract:
Restriction fragment length polymorphisms were examined for a number of multigene families in a limited sample of primitive barley cultivars and wild barley accessions from the primary center of diversity in the eastern Mediterranean. Survey results show that high p-amylases, alcohol dehydrogenases and hordein C has high levels of variation among gene families. The low p-amylase and waxy gene families, on the other hand, were more conserved.
