Comparative 16S rRNA analysis of lake bacterioplankton reveals globally distributed phylogenetic clusters including an abundant group of actinobacteria
Article Abstract:
Researchers have confirmed the global distribution of many lake bacterioplankton by analyzing the microbial communities in a lake in Russia, Germany, and Austria. Members of the alpha, beta, and gamma subclasses of Proteobacteria were represented, as were the Actinobacteria, which made up 63% of the bacterioplankton biomass in one lake.

An improved protocol for quantification of freshwater Actinobacteria by fluorescence in situ hybridization
Article Abstract:
Research has been conducted on limnetic Actinobacteria. The authors describe the development of the protocol to visualize this Actinobacteria, and report the study of the potential of this technique for FISH of freshwater plankton.
