Comparative diversity analysis of RFLPs and isozymes within and among populations of Hordeum vulgare ssp. spontaneum
Article Abstract:
An investigation of DNA restriction fragment length polymorphisms (RFLPs) and isozyme variation in 268 accessions of a wild barley (Hordeum vulgare ssp. spontaneum), sampled from various ecogeographical regions in Israel and Iran, revealed that RFLPs and isozymes are extremely polymorphic in and among populatious of the barley. The low corelation between significant factors of population differences between RFLPs and isozymes suggests that only a small proportion of the genetic differences found by one type of markers can be predicted by the other.

RFLPs for somatotropic genes identify quantitative trait loci for growth in mice
Article Abstract:
Restriction fragment length polymorphisms (RFLPs) for the growth hormone (GH) and for the insulin-like growth factor (IGF) were correlated with postweaning growth rate as well as body weight in mice. A high correlation exists between body weight and the GH genotype. However, the allele associated with high 42-day body weight in selected populations was associated with lower body weight in experimental populations. RFLPs for IGF were likewise correlated with growth rate and body weight in the test organism.

The contribution of quantitative trait loci and neutral marker loci to the genetic variances and covariances among quantitative traits in random mating populations
Article Abstract:
New genetic models enable the determination of the contribution of multiallelic quantitative trait loci (QTLs) and neutral marker loci (NMLs) to the additive and dominance variances and covariances among quantitative traits in random mating populations. These genetic models are developed with the help of Cockerham's approach of orthogonal scales. Theoretical study helps derive an expression for the expected variance due to correlation between a quantitative trait and multilocus heterozygosity.
