Isoliquiritigenin, a strong nod gene- and glyceollin resistance- inducing flavonoid from soybean root exudate
Article Abstract:
Isoliquiritigenin was detected in the root exudate but not in the seed exudates of Glycine max. The purified isoliquiritigenin was shown to be a strong inducer of the nod gene, with induction occurring at as low as 1 nM. It also induced glyceollin resistance in phytoalexin concentration of 300 micromolar. However, isoliquritigenin did not elicit any chemotactic response from Bradyrhizobium japonicum. The results indicate that isoliquiritigenin has a strong symbiotic role.

Diazotrophic community structure and function in two successional stages of biological soil crusts from the Colorado plateau and Chihuahuan desert
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to characterize the community structure and activity of N2 fixing microorganisms in soil crusts from Chihuahua desert as well as from the Colorado plateau. It was found that functionally biological soil crusts play important roles in soil stability, water retention and flow.

2-O-Methylation of fucosyl residues of a rhizobial lipopolysaccharide is increased in response to host exudate and is eliminated in a symbiotically defective mutant
Article Abstract:
Little is known of the biological roles of a specific structural feature of the rhizobial lipopolysaccharide(LPS), however the importance of wild-type LPS in symbiosis is well established. The changes in LPS sugar composition induced by growth in host anthocyanins are examined.
