Construction of a novel virus that targets HIV-1-infected cells and controls HIV-1 infection
Article Abstract:
A recombinant vesicular stomatitis virus lacking its glycoprotein gene, was found to express the HIV01 receptor CD4 and a corecptor, CXCR4. The virus was able to infect, propagate on and kill HIV-1 infected cells. HIV infection was controlled and titiers of infectious HIV-1 in the culture were reduced. The targeted virus could have therapeutic uses in reducing HIV viral load.

The genesis of a pandemic influenza virus
Article Abstract:
Human pandemic influenza viruses emerge when avian influenza virus genes are incorporated into human influenza viruses in a way that allows for efficient spread of these viruses between humans. It is found that remarkable similarities exist between the human pandemic influenza virus that caused the 1918 Spanish influenza and those of avian influenza viruses.

An effective AIDS vaccine based on live attenuated vesicular stomatitis virus recombinants
Article Abstract:
Research demonstrates a new strategy for developing an effective AIDS vaccine using Vesicular stomatisis virus vectors expressing env and gag genes. Data reveal that vaccinated rhesus monkeys remain healthy for up to 14 months, whereas untreated monkeys develop AIDS during that same period.
