Cooperative interactions between the central spindle and the contractile ring during Drosophila cytokinesis
Article Abstract:
Male meiosis in mutants related to the region of the chickadee (chic), a Drosophila melanogaster gene that codes for profilin, has been analyzed. The mutants are very defective in meiotic cytokinesis. In ana-telophase of both meiotic divisions, the mutants have a central spindle less dense than in the wild type. Some chic allelic combinations cause the central spindle to be almost nonexistent. It seems that a cooperative interaction exists between the central spindle microtubules and elements of the actin-based contractile ring. Proper actin assembly likely is needed for centrosome separation and migration.

The kl-3 loop of the Y chromosome of Drosophila melanogaster binds a tektin-like protein
Article Abstract:
Proteins bound to the Y chromosome loops of Drosophila melanogaster were identified and characterized using antibodies against testis-specific proteins. A polyclonal antibody, designated as T53-1, was found to react with non-Y-encoded, testis-specific protein present on the kl-3 loop and in the sperm flagellum. The characteristic of the protein tagged by the T53-1 antibody showed that it may be a member of the axonemal proteins called tektins, whih form Sarkosyl-urea insoluble filaments in the wall of flagellar microtubules.

Asymmetric segregation on spindle poles of the Schizosaccaromyces pombe septum-inducing protein kinase Cdc7p
Article Abstract:
There is asymmetric segregation on spindle poles of septum-inducing protein kinase Cdc7p of Schizosaccaromyces pombe. The organism divides by way of a central division septum. Initiation of septation must be coordinated closely with events of mitosis. Otherwise the undivided nucleus could be cut in half. Spg1p GTPase and Cdc7p kinase are central to signaling.
