Cyclin B, p34(supercdc2), and H1-kinase activity in terminally differentiating lens fiber cells
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to determine whether similar mechanisms of terminal differentiation of lens fiber cells can be used in testing for the presence of cyclin B/p34 complexes and p34-associated histone kinase activity in differentiating lens fiber cells. Reverse transcription and polymerase chain reaction revealed an amplified cyclin B product and in situ hybridization revealed cyclin B mRNA in nucleated lens fiber cells, while immunoblotting confirmed presence of the complexes in different proteins. These results suggest that cyclin B/p34 and p34-associated histone kinase activity are present in differentiating lens fiber cells.

Evidence for engrailed-independent wingless autoregulation in Drosophila
Article Abstract:
The wingless (wg) gene appears to have an autoregulatory function, distinct and separable from paracrine regulation through the engraled gene (en), in the wild type embryo of Drosophila. The asymmetric patterning of epidermal cell types in the larval cuticle depends on delayed, localized wg expression. En can induce expression from the endogenous wg gene only in immediate neighboring cells that have been exposed to wg.
