Cytochrome c and dATP-dependent formation of Apaf-1/caspase 9 complex initiates an apoptotic protease cascade
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on a purified Apaf-3, a third protein factor that is involved in caspase-3 activation. using protein sequencing and immunoblot analysis. Results have shown that Apaf-3 is identical to caspase-9/Mch6/ICE-LAP6, which binds Apaf-1 in a cytochrome c and dATP-dependent formation and has an active site mutant the blocks caspase-3 activation and cellular apoptosis. This indicated that the formation of Apaf-1/capsase-9 complex activated a caspase cascade during apoptosis.

Dual inhibition of sister chromatid separation at metaphase
Article Abstract:
Research has been conducted on the sister chromatid separation in anaphase mediated by separase, an endopeptidase cleaving chromosomal cohesin SCC1. Results indicate that separase activity is inhibited by independent processes acting on separase itself, one is dependent on securin and the other is dependent on the inhibitory separase phosphorylation.

Structural basis of caspase-7 inhibition by XIAP
Article Abstract:
Research has been conducted on the apoptosis inhibitor proteins which suppress cell death via inhibiting the capsase catalytic activity. The crystal structure of capsase-7 in the complex with the inhibitory fragment from the X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis has been investigated and the results are reported.
