Development of the Xenopus pronephric system
Article Abstract:
The early development of lower vertebrate kidneys starts with the pronephric system. Researchers observed the development of frog kidneys with labelled monoclonal antibodies. One antibody stained the tubules and nephrostomes of the pronephroi and another stained the duct and nephrostomes of the developing embryo. At the early stage of development, the collecting tubule, the connective tubules, and the pronephric duct are separate. The connecting tubule and the rostral fragment of the duct undergo significant winding during later stages of development.
